COSTEP, Council for South Texas Economic Progress (COSTEP) recently hosted a series of familiarization tours (FAM Tours) for several site selector consultants. Guests for the Laredo tour included representatives from Angelou Economics, Kupperman Location Solutions, Jones Lang LaSalle America, Inc., and Maxis Advisors. The McAllen tour consisted of site selectors from Gold Stone Consulting Group, Quest Site Solutions, Tochi Advisors, Inc. and representatives from Cantier Systems, Nano Dimension, and Fundación México-Estados Unidos para la Ciencia (FUMEC). The purpose of these tours were to provide site selectors with an overview of Rio South Texas and its potential as a location for foreign and domestic direct investment.
Both FAM Tours utilized presentations from local entities to showcase the Rio South Texas region and its unique bilateral relationship with Mexico. Local economic development organizations and ancillaries informed guests on their respective community’s demographics, business environment, strategic advantages, industrial development trends, and infrastructure projects. The Tours also consisted of presentations from businesses on both sides of the Rio Grande River. These companies elaborated on how their location provided them with access to the labor force and resources in both the US and Mexico, ultimately amplifying the productivity of their facilities.
Our guests were also provided with the opportunity to experience the region’s uniqueness firsthand. The tours were not merely limited to Texas-based economic development offices; guests were even able to explore Mexico-based industrial parks, which provided them with a further comprehension of the bilateral dynamic that Rio South Texas companies utilize.
The FAM Tours successfully provided the site selectors and companies with a vivid perspective of this section of Rio South Texas, and they left at the end of the day with a more comprehensive knowledge of why Rio South Texas is an ideal location for business development.
